The Misfits - Hybrid Moments

May 27, 2008 3:01pm

squashed:

Apparently 60 Minutes has decided that ageism is now okay? The promotion of blatant generational stereotypes is now an acceptable way to sell ad space? I guess I’m fine with it, if you are. Let me know if I’m getting the wrong message from this segment. Otherwise, it’s on, old man.

I caught this segment earlier tonight and couldn’t wait to rail on it: an entire segment bemoaning some perceived pampering of the latest college grads, dubbed “millennials.” Sorry there’s not a draft going on right now, CBS producers. I’ve come to expect this from Andy Rooney (along with 100,000 prescription drug ads) but interviewing exclusively motivational speakers to prove your point is not journalism.

Ted Leo And The Pharmacists - Heart Problems

You got a problem with the times? Your problems sound a lot like mine

I’ve always loved how Ted rails off like 50 drugs names at the end

I hated Indy 4 for the following reasons

Don’t read this if you haven’t seen it yet.

  • Indy is cocky as hell and fails to show pretty much any other emotion
  • Indy would never be in the army (hated Boy Scouts in Indy 3 and “CIA” in Indy 1)
  • Indy’s treatment of Mutt was pretty much the opposite of every other family member/friend he’s ever had (when has to told a family member to “get up and fight!”)
  • Marian and Indy made up in no time
  • Ridiculous CGI where it was totally unnecessary that didn’t even look good (entering the warehouse, the crystal skull)
  • Ending was a duplicate of Indy 1/3 (eyes melt, temple collapses and kills greedy sidekick)
  • It more of a prequel to AI than it was a sequel

I read The Pixar Touch: The Making of a Company this weekend and it blew my mind! This book has everything:

  • Steve Jobs acting insane
  • George Lucas acting insane
  • Michael Eisner acting insane
  • High-stakes media warfare and the downfall of Disney animation
  • A history of computer graphics dating back to the 70s
  • The infamous Pixar Image Computer
  • Courtroom intrigue (Monsters, Inc. landed Pixar in court twice)
  • Corporate intrigue (Antz vs A Bug’s Life)
  • Detailed background on the creative process behind every Pixar film up to Ratatouille
Anyway, it’s a real underdog story. Check it out.

Some Tumblr improvements I'd like to see

  • Use my actual posts in the customizer
  • Make the reblog trace threaded and put the button to activate it closer to where it appears so I don’t have to scroll down to see
  • Don’t scale down images in the dashboard (it makes the “click-through” feature useless)
  • Aggregate consecutive posts by the same user of the same type so I don’t get 15 photos in a row
  • “Artist” and “title” fields for audio posts
  • Let me customize the way my post bubble appears on other people’s dashboards

Let the healing begin!

Patrick Cassels is hilarious and full of anecdotes. It just didn’t make sense that he didn’t have Tumblr. We pled with him. We reasoned. Jake even organized a petition. But nothing worked.

Today we held an intervention. I organized, Ricky hosted, Jake, Sarah and Amanda wrote letters, and Amir and Blake shot it.

Ladies and gentlemen: patrickcassels.tumblr.com.

Waiting Patrick to enter the room was maybe the most nervous I have been at CV ever.
